Blueberry and Banana Smoothie

A smoothie is the fast track to nourishment, because the ingredients have already been broken down, meaning less work for your digestive system. This smoothie is a perfectly balanced meal in a glass, as the fruit provides energy, the berries also contain vitamins and antioxidant flavonoids, the yoghurt provides probiotics to help your digestion and boost your immunity, and the seeds contain essential fats and protein, as well as a shot of zinc.

If you make this drink in a blender, the seeds will be chopped up into small pieces that add to the texture, but if you prefer a smoother consistency, grind them in a coffee bean grinder or food processor first.

Serves 4

600g (1lb 5oz) blueberries 4 bananas

12 tbsp live natural yoghurt, kefir or soya yoghurt

4 tbsp pumpkin or sunflower seeds a little milk, juice or water if needed

1. Blend the blueberries, bananas, yoghurt or kefir and seeds together until smooth.

2. Check the consistency and if you think it needs it, add a small amount of liquid to make the smoothie easier to drink.

Cook’s Notes

Gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free if you use soya yoghurt • V • Can be made half an hour in advance if you add a squeeze of lemon juice to stop it from discolouring and store it in the fridge
