I wake more or less with the light, at dawn. My wife Gaby and I play Wordle, which wakens the mind, then have a really good coffee or wait until after the beach. If I’m writing a book (just finished one in 20 days which is why I’m now in ‘deep recovery’) I’ll write for 3 hours each morning before getting distracted by emails and life. I’ll have a coffee after about an hour. It is better to activate your own adrenal hormones and the mind before having caffeine, sticking to one coffee a day. I also put some Ketofast (C8 oil) in my coffee for a keto boost.
We then head to the ten mile white sand beach with no-one on it. It’s a 10 minute walk over sand dunes. We swim in the sea, then do energy generating exercises called Kath State, a condensed form of chi gung perfected by Oscar Ichazo of the Arica Institute. This connects you with the five energies, the five centres – the Kath (hara or tantien) in the belly, the heart, the mind, then the perineum and crown – sex and spirit. Then we meditate hitting that sweetspot of emptiness. All this is explained in my two favourite books – Ten Secrets of 100% Healthy People and The Chemistry of Connection.
Next is breakfast. Here it is either chia cinnamon coconut/oat milk porridge, cold made the night before, with a little papaya; or two eggs and a thin slice of wholegrain toast; or an oat banana pancake, with lots of cinnamon and some papaya and a drizzle of local honey. Always with a spicy, caffeine less tea made from cardamon, cinnamon and ginger. We use these local spices here but in the UK the closest thing is Yogi Tea. I always take supplements twice a day. With breakfast I take a strip of the 100% Health Pack and right now I’m trialling Ubiquinol, which is the active or reduced form of CoQ10, about 10 times more powerful than CoQ. I’m learning that there is a magic triangle of detoxification with glutathione, vitamin CWhat it does: Strengthens immune system – fights infections. Makes collagen, keeping bones, skin and joints firm and strong. Antioxidant, detoxifying pollutants and protecting against… and ubiquinol. I also have a glass of water kefir.
As I’m in ‘deep recovery’ phase, which takes 2 weeks, all emails are turned off and I’m reading a highly pleasurable book by the great and witty writer Tahir Shah. Nothing ‘worky’.
Lunch is light. Dinner is local ‘tewa’ rock cod and a Thai vegetable curry with a little brown rice and a green papaya salad. I drink very little – a glass of rosé. instead having a ginger spritzer. We make fresh ginger juice ice cubes. That, plus fizzy water, fresh lime and a dash of Angustura bitters makes a refreshing drink. I always lose weight and gain muscle in Lamu despite eating like a king. Fresh fish from the sea and fruits and vegetables from the shambas – effectively organic – and the best spices, cinnamon being great for blood sugar.
We built Gaba Gaba House as a magical Moorish sanctuary with an inner courtyard, based on the old Islamic principles of sacred geometry used in the Alhambra. The house has this peaceful nature with hammocks and a small pool on the roof, where we can watch the sun rise and set and many come for holidays and hopefully recharge too. See holfordnaturalholidays.com for details.
