Living with Dementia

There are currently around 800,000 people suffering with dementia in the UK – and that figure is rising as more of us live longer. It’s estimated that one-in-three people over the age of 65 will develop some form of dementia. Yet it is a preventable disease.

Watch this Tonight programme “Living with Dementia” (Thursday 8th May 7.30pm, ITV) in which Fiona Foster meets experts and carers striving to help people live and cope with dementia and lift the stigma associated with it. She also interviews Professor David Smith, whose groundbreaking research giving B vitamins to those at risk shows us the way forward for prevention.

If you are concerned the first step is to take the free online Cognitive Function Test from Food for the Brain which also gives you practical prevention steps you can take right now to reduce your risk.

I’m giving a talk on how to prevent Alzheimer’s based on Professor Smith’s work as part of a one day workshop called Mental Health – The Nutrition Connection, which is taking place on Saturday May 17th, 2014 in Hammersmith, London. For more details click here.
