This three-day residential retreat in Fforest Barn Mountain Retreat, near Abergavenny, South Wales (2.5hrs from London by train or car) 3rd June (starting at 5pm*) to 6th June (ending at noon). *Official start time - you are welcome to arrive from 2pm.
If you would love to learn how to cook healthy plant-based recipes that are delicious, nutritionally balanced, yet simple to create, this cookery retreat is for you. Maybe you are interested in eating more plant-based foods but don’t know how to use them in meal preparation, or maybe you want to avoid processed foods in the supermarket and learn to cook using wholefoods. Whatever your reasons, you will realise that cooking can be easy, and you don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen or buy tons of new equipment to make fantastically tempting food.
Under our instruction you will be cooking meals that taste delicious, look amazing and are full of vibrant, healthy ingredients. This retreat will you the impetus to get creative at home going forward.

- A guided walk in the raw nature of the Black Mountains (with hopefully a foraging opportunity)

Sam & Mike Thomsett
We are both foodies, love everything culinary and enjoy experiencing world cuisines. However, in our travels - both locally and afar - despite experiencing some truly excellent restaurant meals we have often struggled to find a good combination of quality, taste, dietary options, and value for money.
So, we set ourselves a task: to create the type and quality of food that we like to eat and see if others would like it too. With increasing emphasis on wellness and healthy eating, we decided to set up our own business, cooking for people requiring nutritionally balanced food.
We trained at the Gastronomicom Culinary Academy in France and gained experience working together cooking in ski-chalets, gites and B&Bs around the world. We are both certified in Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering and each have a diploma in Vegan Nutrition and Vegan cookery.
As well as mainstream menus, we specialise in cooking for dietary intolerances/allergies and specific eating plans. Whether that is vegan, plant-based, dairy-free, gluten-free, low GL (glycaemic load), low sugar, low salt, or specific requirements, we continuously research new ingredients in our quest for perfectly balanced, tasty, interesting and visually appetising food. We are passionate about Patrick’s optimum nutrition principles and low GL style of eating, rich in antioxidants, essential fats, vitamins and minerals.
So…we have found what makes us happy! Creating wonderful plates of food that look amazing and taste delicious and adhere to the various nutritional requirements of our clients. Good food does not need to be complicated. Good food should never be boring. Good food should be colourful and ultimately a feast for the senses. We think creating fantastic food is a joy to both prepare and eat.
We now want to share our love of food with you and teach you how to apply these nutrition and culinary principles to make your own perfectly balanced meals.
DATES AND TIMES
From Thursday 3rd June to Sunday 6th June. The Retreat is held at Fforest Barn Mountain Retreat, near Abergavenny, a beautiful area with lots to see and do in the region The retreat starts on at 6pm on Thursday evening (arrivals from 2pm welcome) and ends at noon on Sunday. It includes full-board accommodation and all food. There is also a hot tub to enjoy so bring your swimwear! (see Holford Natural Holidays for more details on the venue and surrounding area).

Accommodation is a mixture of one to three single bedrooms or doublebedrooms in the Old Barn, Dutch Barn, and in an Eco-Pod, Romany Gypsy Caravans, Treehouse and Luxury Safari Tent, all with heating and comfortable beds, plus easy access to toilets and bathrooms - and breath-taking views. There are rooms for couples and sharing options if you come alone or bring a friend. Single accommodation is available. Accommodation choice is based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Getting there is easy from London – allow 2.5 hours from the West and 3 hours from the East. Or take a train from Paddington to Abergavenny (2.5 hours). Taxis from Abergavenny to Fforest barn cost circa £10. We’ll help you with your travel plans and any other needs.
Places are strictly limited to 12 people and filling fast so we recommend you secure your place now with a £250 deposit. Book by 31st March 2021 to take advantage of our early-bird discount and save £100 with an all-inclusive price of £700. Price from 2021 is £800 per person. If you are restricted from coming due to covid rules your booking will either by moved to the next retreat or refunded.
