Multi-vitamins improve multi-tasking

New research has found that taking a daily multivitamin and mineral can have a positive impact on cognitive performance and enhance the ability to multi-task.

This randomized, double-blind-control trial, carried out by the Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre at Northumbria University in Newcastle, assessed the performance of more than 200 women aged between 25 and 50, both before and nine weeks after taking either a multi or placebo. Those taking the multi demonstrated increased resilience for mood and fatigue while completing the same tasks second time around – and performed better with increased accuracy. The study’s authors conclude: “These findings suggest that healthy members of the general population may benefit from augmented levels of vitamins/minerals via direct dietary supplementation.” This study joins a growing body of evidence on the many benefits of supplementing essential nutrients – and adds weight to the argument that even the best diet cannot give you optimum levels of all the vitamins and minerals you need to function at your best.
