Mary, who weighed in at 17 stone 7lbs, has lost 2 stone 7 lbs (35lbs) and feels loads better. Her 100% health score has gone from 42% to 67% and she’s lost her craving for sweet food and the pain she experienced in her left foot.

Una weighed in at 17 stone 3lbs and now weighs 14stone 11lbs. In truth she weighed less two weeks ago (14stone 7lbs) – having lost 2 stone and 10lbs (38lbs) but her mother passed away and she spent the next two weeks eating the kind of food she used to eat – and really felt the difference. Her 100% Health score has gone from 56% to 79%.  On my GL diet she lost her asthma, knee pain and low mood, quitting anti-depressants. She also lost her bloating and had greatly improved digestion. Her experience of a return of these symptoms when off the diet has been a real eye opener. She’s back on track and coped so much better than she could have in the past.

Both Una and Mary noticed a big improvement in energy. Mary said it took five days for her energy levels to soar. Her energy score went from 42% to 90%. Neither are dependent on stimulants and sugar anymore. Both said the diet was easy and they intend to keep going and lose more weight.

As well as follow my diet advice in the Low GL Diet Bible and taking BioCare’s Optimum Nutrition Pack with GL Support Una and Mary were part of a Zest4Life group, run by Sandra Devlin in Dublin, which involves weekly meetings that help you learn what to do and how to stick to the diet. Zest4Life groups are now running all over Britain. To register visit www.zest4life.eu. They both found this really helpful and intend to continue.

If you’d like to find out more about how to lose loads of weight and gain energy following my low GL diet principles I am running a half day Low GL Diet Workshop in London on February 20th , in Toronto on March 13th at the Total Health Show and in Athlone in Ireland on May 15th.

I have followed the 100% Health Programme for 2 weeks now and it does not seem to be helping me much. Since starting it I have developed bad joint pains which I never used to have in my shoulder and my hip. I have not managed to lose an ounce.

Two weeks may be too short. Are you strictly following my low GL diet, 40GLs a day? That’s the way to lose weight. Regarding your joint pains I don’t know why this. Joints pain can happen if you are eating something you are allergic to. One small possibility is that you have introduced more of an otherwise healthy food that you are intolerant of. The GL Diet Bible talks about this as a common reason for not getting the weight loss. http://www.yorktest.com do the most accurate IgG allergy testing. Hope that helps.

I take Eltroxin daily for an underactive thyroid.  Is there any possibility of ever getting off this medication - I see you recommend Sesame seeds for an underactive thyroid.  I have been advised that thyroid problems can never be cured and you have to take the medication for the rest of your life.  Is this correct?

Thanks

It is certainly not common to come off Eltroxine completely, however it is not unknown. What more normally happens is that eating a low GL diet, losing weight and supplementing sufficient tyrosine, iodine, zinc and selenium your requirement for thyroxine may reduce. The amion acid l-tyrosine (1,500mg a day) is th direct precursor of thyroxine and the enzymes that turn it into thyroxine are zinc, selenium and iodine dependent. Oestrogen competes for the same receptor sites as thyroxine. Reducing oestrogen dominance by losing weight (fat cells make oestrogen) or by reducing dairy product intake can make thyroxine more effective, thus reducing requirement. There are two special reports on underactive thyroid worth a read.

Can anyone tell me what weight I should use of dry pulses and beans, the ones you have to soak before cooking.  The recipes say to use a tin weighting 425gms….but I prefer to use the ones that have to be soaked.  However if anyone can tell me that tinned is better I will look into changing.

Looking forward to help.

The rule of thumb is to halve the cooked weight to give you the dry weight of all beans and pulses. So to work out the amount of beans to soak that is equivalent to a 425g can, take the drained weight (approx 265g) and divide by 2.

Many thanks for the info re dried beans.
With my partner we have been following your good advice for nearly 4 weeks.  His tummy has reduced by a huge amount but strangely not his weight, although he has lots about 4lbs. Whereas I have lost nearer 8lb and feel very much flatter on the tummy, however still looking forward to when the chunky thighs start to slim!
We eat no meat and have found the Veggie and fish menu’s easy to follow, filling and tasty, and at times find some of the meals too much. Giving up coffee has been steady and we are both now down to one small cup a day.  We also made the decision not to buy wine etc to drink at home which has made not drinking for 6 days of the week very much easier. On our one night a week on the town, we limit our consumption to a couple of glasses with our meal.  I hope I can keep up the good work as I love the food and we both feel great!

I am just about to start the GL diet.I don’t quite understand how to work out the points for the lentils or beans. Am i supposed to have them by temselves? Usually i cook lentils as part of a stew. Woild that still be allowed? and if it is, how do you add the points of the ingredients that you have added.
